Analysis of job advertisements featured in Prospects Today* in the year to September 2003 shows that: - The average salary offered was £18,502, up 2.9% from a year ago. The median stayed unchanged at £18,000.
- Of vacancies for which there were regions of work specified, the majority were in London, with 16.6% of the total number of advertised vacancies. This was followed by the South East (14%) and North West (7.8%).
- For job categories which had more than 30 vacancies with salary information, economists and statisticians commanded the highest mean salary at £22,151. This was followed by management consultancy (£21,370) and engineering & technology services (£19,779).
- Nearly two-thirds (62.4%) of the vacancies on offer were open to graduates from any discipline.
- Graduates with 'any numerate disciplines' commanded the highest mean and median salaries at £24,504 and £25,000 respectively.
