Global Vision International

Ross chose to spend his gap year on a ten-week expedition with Global Vision International.

Ross Global Vision International After graduation, Ross worked for two years before deciding he was ready for a change. He wanted to try something completely different and worthwhile and he embarked on an expedition with Global Vision International (GVI).

He was abroad for six months, starting with a ten-week expedition. Volunteers make a payment to cover their board and lodging, training materials and support for GVI’s local partners. Ross raised funds by working, but GVI also provides fundraising support for volunteers.

Ross’s expedition involved predator research on a South African reserve, plus some community teaching work. A mountain phase also gave volunteers a chance to experience a very different part of the country. After the expedition, Ross got an internship with GVI, which allowed him to stay for a further ten weeks assisting staff with the running of the expedition. He learned a lot, not only about conservation work, but also about himself and his capabilities.

Ross is now working as a regional coordinator for GVI to help support volunteers on similar projects.
