Autumn 2001

Assess your motivation/skills to be a solicitor:

Research and apply for Christmas vacation placements

Attend careers information events/fairs

Apply for Easter/summer vacation placements -

Spring 2002

Investigate alternative work experience/visits

Attend careers information events/fairs

May 2002

Research in detail training contracts using directories, brochures and websites

Compose CV and submit applications for contracts commencing 2004 after exam results

June 2002

Complete registration card for LPC forms from the Central Applications Board

Autumn 2001

Obtain forms for the CPE application from Central Applications board

December 2001

Check early closing dates for applications for training contracts (especially City of London firms)

February 2002

Closing date for CPE applications

Summer 2002

Make full use of the summer vacation (work experience, travel etc)

September 2002

Interviews for training contracts commence (esp larger/commercial firms)

Check your eligibility for completing the academic stage of training and the procedures for completion

October 2002

Apply for LPC course via Central Applications Board (December closing date)

Plan your financial arrangements for the course

Continue research/applications for training contracts especially with smaller private practice firms

Spring 2003

Enrol with the Law Society (by 31 March)

Accept offer of LPC place (provisionally if necessary)

Apply to your LEA for possible discretionary awards (unlikely!)

May 2003

Confirm LPC acceptance

Summer 2003

Enjoy a break

Autumn 2003

Start LPC

Continue training contracts applications/interviews as necessary
