Editor's notes

Many exciting things have been happening here at HECSU over the last few months. First of all, as mentioned in In Brief, we will be starting a new four-year longitudinal study on part-time higher education students soon. The study will be led by Professor Claire Callender from London South Bank University, who recently published a report for Universities UK on students’ attitudes and experiences of part-time study and its costs, and is an international and national expert on full- and part-time student finances.

On 12 June, HECSU and the Higher Education Academy held a successful joint conference entitled ‘Putting Research into Practice’. Participants were the first to hear about the findings from the first main survey of Futuretrack, which has 130,000 respondents, and the innovative Putting Research Outcomes into Practice (PROP) project. For those of you who missed out on this very informative event, please download the presentations from HECSU. A HECSU Forum will also be available in July on the website to follow up on the conference.

On the subject of the HECSU website, we have recently started a new feature: ‘Accidental Analyst’, which takes a ‘wry look at what is in the news’, and with an aim to give ‘a different slant on current careers thinking’.

I hope you enjoy reading this latest issue of GMT.
