Where do they come from?

In this feature we show you what percentage of graduates working in a particular occupation, eg business and finance professionals, are from a particular subject area, eg accountancy (see PDF file of table attached below). In this example, 15% of business and finance professionals have done accountancy degrees.

We have found it useful to include some vocational subject areas not covered by the charts used in this edition, and these are asterisked in the table, which you can view by clicking below.

Key Findings
  • Almost half of graduates working as IT professionals six months after graduation (48%) are from computing science degrees; a further 10% from mathematics.
  • 30% of media, literary, design & sports professionals are from design studies.
  • 18% of engineering professionals are from mechanical engineering degrees, 16% from civil engineering degrees and 14% from electrical & electronic engineering degrees.
  • 13% of graduates working in scientific based occupations are from chemistry degrees, 13% from biology and a further 5.7% from physics.
  • 38% of nursing and health associate professionals are from nursing degrees, and 54% from subjects allied to medicine.
  • Over three-quarters of health professionals are from medicine and dentistry degrees, and a further 12% from subjects allied to medicine.
